15 Cool Facts You (And I) Didn't Know About Cats

Who knew cats were such interesting furry little things? I admit I didn't! Read on to see if you knew these facts about them and if these facts don’t compel you to think that cats are awesome animals, I don't know what will. 

1. Not to confuse you or anything, but a group of cats is called a clowder. (Does that make you hungry? :P) 
2. Owning a cat can reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack by a third. (The question is how..) 
3. Next time you spot a female cat, you’d notice that it is right-pawed while male cats are usually left-pawed. 
4. Cats have a thousand more data storage than an iPad! (Well, Apple should up their level a little)
5. A house cat can run 3 mph than Usain Bolt, the fastest runner in the entire world, beat that! (And here you thought Usain Bolt ran fast)
6. Cats use their whiskers to see if they can fit through a space. (You mean there’s a functional purpose to those things?)
7. Cats only sweat through their foot pads. (Why can’t humans be like this too?!) 
   
8. A cat can jump up to SIX times its own length. 
9. Cats can make over 100 different sounds as compared to dogs, who can only make about 10. 
10. Ever touched a cat’s nose and felt that there’s a weird rough pattern on it? It’s equivalent to a human’s thumbprint and each cat has its own unique pattern. 
11. The reason why kittens sleep so much is because their bodies release a special growth hormone only when they are asleep. 
    
12. Adult cats, however don’t produce that same special growth hormone. They just sleep all day because that’s what they like to do best.
    
    
13. Cats sleep so much that when they are about 9 years old, they would only have been awake for 3 YEARS OF ITS LIFE. That’s a lot of sleep man. 
14. Cats meow only to communicate with humans and yet we can’t understand em’! Haha. 
15. There are plenty other animals that purr and they include squirrels, elephants and.. GORILLAS?!
